There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and the cat in question is whey protein. Now, before I go any further, I feel it important to say this article is about how to take whey protein in different ways. If you came here looking for information on when, I suggest you visit my in depth article when to take whey protein. Back to the how. Conventionally, whey protein is mixed with milk, and many who don’t drink milk make the mistake of writing whey protein off. I’m here to tell you different. This article will explain several other great ways in which you can take whey protein and still get all of the benefits. I think you’ll be surprised!
Here are the different ways how you can take whey protein:
With milk
For the sake of being thorough, I thought I’d offer up this, anyway. Some people avoid milk because of the calories or high fat content; in which case they may view skim or low fat milk as an alternative. If, on the other hand, you are avoiding milk because you are lactose intolerant, there are many excellent brands of lactose free milk on the market which most lactase-bankrupt stomachs can take. And/or, there are lactase enzymes you may wish to take, too.
In a fruit drink
Some common sense (or a zany sense of adventure) is obviously needed here. My suggestion is to mix your whey protein up with a fruit drink flavor which matches.
Why would you do this? Why not just take whey protein with water?
I’m actually saving that approach for my article entitled: How To Take Whey Protein Without Involuntarily Regurgitating
Kidding aside, many people – myself especially – can’t really abide the taste of even our favorite whey protein flavors when mixed with plain old water. To me, it just doesn’t taste right. (I’ve tried a lot of flavors and types, several times over, and I’m yet to ‘acquire the taste’).
Therefore, mixing matching flavors of fruit juice can provide a more solid and palatable flavor.
In a yogurt
Yes, yogurt is dairy; but there’s a difference between consuming a small pot of yogurt and a full pint of milk. Mixing a dose of whey protein with yogurts of varying flavors is one of my favourite ways of getting my dose in without consuming too much dairy. You can get adventurous if you like, but, if you wish to play it safe I recommend you choose your favorite whey flavor and mix it with plain natural yogurt.
In flapjacks
Flapjacks? You’re kidding right? Don’t flip out; think about it for a moment. Flapjacks are made up of oats, which are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates. There are many recipes on the net for making this great tasting – and useful – bodybuilding snack. And the best part is, they don’t even need baking at all – so the whey protein isn’t degraded one iota.
Conclusion
Now you know how to take whey protein in several different ways, you can see it’s not all about milk and you needn’t miss out on this excellent supplement because of milk. I hope these suggestions have been useful and have set a light bulb off in your head. Whey is versatile. Go experiment!
