Question: Will Whey Protein Give Me Muscles Without Working Out?

Question:

A friend of mine at school takes a lot of whey protein but doesn’t work out with weights, yet he looks like he’s getting bigger and bigger. Do you have to work out with whey protein to get bigger?

Answer:

If your friend is taking whey protein and not working out with weights, he could either be getting bigger by engaging in other kinds of physical activity maybe push ups, or various sports.

If your friend doesn’t work out with weights, takes a lot of whey protein and appears to be getting bigger – it’s likely he’s putting on fat by consuming too many calories. Not muscle.

Even people who train with weights sometimes get a false idea of how much muscle they are gaining, because they gain a lot of fat by consuming too many calories. It’s only down the line when they have to lose the fat during cutting that they see most of their gains was pure fat, without much muscle at all.

Or… the most cynical answer… your friend may be telling you lies, and he is lifting weights.

I really don’t know.

What I do know is, lifting weights/doing sports and taking in sufficient protein/calories will give you more muscle – and whey protein supplements can help in this instance, because whey protein is the top protein source, bar none.
